Indic Creations - Our Why
Every business has to have a why or purpose. Ours is - Indian fabrics and artisanship is almost a stereotype in USA without much depth. By that I mean, American consumers know Indian sarees are beautiful, maybe some know about block printing, tie dye but Indian textile and handicraft is far more wide and deeper than that AND merchants thus far have done an inadequate job of tailoring those to American needs. We want to change that. Hence I started this business.
Growing up, my father used to travel across India for work very regularly. He was in the business of building infrastructure and hence the travel to far flung areas of India. It was difficult to have him gone so often but me and my sister always looked forward to him coming home with a big laugh and loads of unique gifts. Whether it was tussar silk from west bengal, kanjeevaram silk from Tamil Nadu, Pasmina shawls from Kashmir, block printed bedding from Madhya Pradesh, Phulkari quilts from Punjab or tie dye from Rajasthan, each trip brought home something unique made exclusively in the state he visited. Thats the beauty of India and the depth that it offers.
Most of these items are made by men and women in self-organized cottage industries. Hand crafting, such a coveted feature in the West, is the norm in those industries. Our mission is to scour India to discover those gems and tailor them to American taste.
We are on this journey to constantly discover, curate, test and improve to ensure we bring the very best quality and relevance to the US market from India. We also want to make sure we pay fair compensation to the artisans, we maximize sustainability across our catalog and eventually help add jobs here in USA.
We hope you can support us in this journey with your feedback, purchases and spreading the word amongst your friends, family and colleagues. I will be sharing interesting nuggets for our offerings as to their origin, the artists who make them and how we are weaving sustainability into our catalog.
Thanks for reading and Wish you all the very best for the holidays!
